Dear Susan, well you got me hooked completely with the Irish End Games Series. I have to explain that this is not my normal type of reading. I’m a disability pensioner with many serious medical conditions and I battle with a lot of pain, and I use books as escapism from the reality of life. For that reason, the sort of thing that usually appeals to me is the books far removed from the real life, such as sci-fi and fantasy. I’m a huge Star Trek fan so I often read those books, but somehow I came across your giveaway of Free Falling and it broke all my usual standards! Those poor people! And yet I found myself loving it and wanting more! In no time at all I have bought and read all the books and have just completed Never Never and they are all equally captivating and inspiring. You just have to love Sarah and her sheer tenacity and gumption. The female Macgyver indeed! Thanks so much for creating such a wonderful, believable world of characters in these books. It does make you think how we’d all survive without all our modern conveniences that we so take for granted. It also gives everyone a window into the soul of mankind. Simply brilliant writing. Can’t wait for book 8 and thanks so much!

I hope this message finds you well in 2019. I just recently found Susan and her Irish apocalypse series, and have been able to purchase them after falling in love with the first book I also came across as a freebie!! I am disabled myself, but working on disability approval, but I use books as a form of escapism as well!! I feel exactly the same as you do about these books and the characters, except for one thing… I lived many years of my childhood off-grid as they call it now, lol! To me the way they live, when they aren’t being attacked, is second hand and actually much less stressful, rewarding and fun than being on the grid! Except for how they gardened when they lived in Ireland compared to Ishnert….the greenhouse is a more sure method and using aquaponics in a greenhouse even better still allowing for faster yields and more yields compared to in earth form of gardening which makes gardening more predictable, safe and healthier as well!!
Anyway, just wanted to touch base and agree with you and hope you are well all things considered!

I read all of Mia mysterys and it made me realize my passion for reading . Then I started the Irish games just finished the 7th . Can’t wait until #8 thank you susan for helping me remember my passion for falling into a good book .

I want to let you know how much I have enjoyed the Maggie series. I have all but three of the Maggie books & have enjoyed reading them. This has been a tough summer & fall for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April & have had surgery & am currently undergoing weekly chemo sessions. Reading is something that I can do to keep myself occupied.
I also have enjoyed reading Swept Away & Carried Away. Ella & Rowan have such great adventures. Can’t wait to read Stolen Away. Thanks for writing such great books.

Yes, be happy to explain. There’s a certain methodology involved in publishing as far as boosting discoverability. Amazon–where I and most indie authors sell the most books–encourage their authors to be exclusively with them for 90 days and in exchange they will send out promotional emails to their customers suggesting they might be interested in one of my books. This is a significant boost to getting more “eyes” on my books. It’s hard being exclusive for the 90 days but it pays off with more people discovering my books. And the more people who discover them, the longer I’m able to continue writing them! Simple math! 🙂 So wait until September if you must but for marketing reasons, they’ll not show up there until then! Thanks for writing, Judy!

I have just started “Murder in the South of France” and look forward to see if my gut feeling proves me right. I wonder if you could clarify something for me, please.
In the first chapter there is this passage “it was half past eight in the evening back in Atlanta “ followed by “it was hot out, even with the afternoon sun dropping” a few paragraphs later and in the same narrative timeline.
Considering that Atlanta is six hours behind Nice, France, 8 pm in the US would be 2am in Nice, how is this possible?

I recently discovered your novels and I really enjoy reading them. Since the beginning of June, I have read 12 of your books. Currently, I am reading all about Maggie and Laurent in Provence.
Nevertheless, I would like to bring to your attention that the little inserts of French language throughout your novels are often spelled wrong or grammatically incorrect. As a francophone, this is really taking away from my reading pleasure.
If you so wish, I can list them for you and also propose corrections. I would gladly do this just to protect the integrity of my mother tongue.

Hi Susan: I am reading your American in Paris series and I keep getting annoyed at your description of a 60 YO woman. I happen to be 60 and am an avid rock climber and diver. I hike every day, ski, play with my dogs, and when I travel, like I did not long ago in France, Romania, and The Netherlands, go for hours without falling apart. All while I am dealing with the consequences of several surgeries (knee and other body parts). I guess the way your main character describes the pains and troubles of getting old seems generalized rather than personal. No doubt, there are 60 YO men and women in worse shape than she is, but I know many much older folks who are in way better shape than I am. Anyway, while I enjoy the books, her repeated references to the consequences of poor aging are unwelcome and unpleasant…to the point that I felt like actually writing you about it. Hi Cristina, Thanks for writing me and sorry for getting on your last nerve regarding my continued descriptions of Claire’s physical limitations due to her age. 🙂 You are probably right that I bang that drum too much. But I’m trying to call attention to the ways that her age makes her different from other younger sleuths. It underscores the obstacles she has to overcome. As a writer, I like to have lots of those for my protagonists to deal with!

It was so nice to read about a protagonist “of a certain age”, since I am also of a certain age. Your books took me out of my situation to a foreign land for hours at a time. Can you answer a question for me about murder in the lavender? At the beginning when Chantal is at her meeting there is italicize text implying her voice saying how dare she how dare that cow take my phone. Yet later on Maggie discovers Beau has the phone. Was this explained, did I miss something? Any chance a reply via email is possible? Thanks
HI, Gina, Great catch! Since your note I’ve rewritten the earlier line to hav Chantal’s phone battery dead so that when Beau ends up with it, it makes sense. This is a classic example that even with all the best proof readers and editors in the world (and I love all of mine) nothing beats an eagle-eyed reader. Thank you for pointing this out to me.

Sometimes when a book gets edited, (and more than one editor with fingers in the pie) scenes get deleted for one reason or another and that’s the only reason I have for why Fleur doesn’t appear in Murder in the Village. Sorry about that! All I can tell you is that she is still in the family and you’ll definitely see her in the next Maggie book, Murder in St-Tropez. Good catch! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books! 🙂

Hi. I’ve been reading your Claire Baskerville series, on book 5 atm, and was wondering whether anyone does fact checking for you? The reason I ask is that Genevieve started off as 88 and is now 85, Claire’s flat was in the 8th arrondissement and appears to now be in the 9th, and Chloe seemed to have suddenly gone from 3 years to 6 in her wheelchair. I can also see why you do repeat the background in each book as I assume you want them to be stand alone, but when reading them as a series it is somewhat boring.
Apart from the above, the books are a great page turner, and I’ve been reading all day for nearly 3 days now! Very addictive.
Hi Sara! Yes I have a virtual army of editors and you wouldn’t believe all what they catch. Plus I have series bibles I reference too, but sometimes when I’m “in the flow” of writing, something will come out that doesn’t belong and nobody catches it. Thanks for your catches though. I’m actually able to go back and correct some of the more blatant inconsistencies. Thank you and I hope the errors don’t hurt your pleasure in the books too much. Thanks again for reaching out to me.
I love reading about Claire and Maggie, but the time errors in Maggie’s book 17 are a little annoying. I live in California and have had a daughter living in Ireland for a time. The time difference is not 15 hours, daylight savings time or not. And “V poisoned on stage at seventeen hundred hours. Died six hours later at twenty-two hundred hours.” is an error in subtraction.
I will continue to read with much pleasure, even with these minor distractions, especially about Claire who is closer to my own age. I wish you much success.

Love it – just found this page and signed up for everything as i have been reading the Maggie series for years – such excitement each time a new book is released, everything comes to a halt in my household until the book is read as I am a huge fan of all things Provence – I am originally from Ireland but live in the US with trips back to Europe – mainly Spain and France each year……how about basing a story in beautiful Andorra or Granada and lots more in Aix en Provence. Congratulations Susan – truly appreciate your skill and talent keeping us entertained – don’t ever stop!

I am not a real fan of most Sci-Fi fiction but love mysteries with good plots and excellent characterizations. The ability to truly immerse me in a place and culture I’ve never experienced before is a real bonus. (I have since been in one of your locales and felt as if I’d been there before … And I had! I just finished Book 23 and it was a whopper. You made me fling my champagne across the room, now I have to wait 6 months for 24. It had better be another booze flinger!!

Hi, I’m totally engrossed reading the Maggie Newberry series. I’m reading Murder in Grasse. Maggie and Grace just finished the perfume tour. Grace went off to create her own perfume and Maggie is people watching at a Cafe. At Chapter 8, my book promptly ended. No murder! What did I do wrong? Help?
Hey, Geri, you clearly got a bad book! You can go to your ebook vendor and tell them what happened–they are prepared for this sort of thing. Or you can read the ebook I’m sending to you.
